Training

Our professional development courses include the NOCN (National Open College Network) IVA (Internal Verifier Award) and, from Spring 2010, the new NOCN qualification ‘Principles and Practice of Assessment’ as well as a range of one day non-accredited sessions designed to meet the needs of everyone involved in delivering OCN provision in the Southwest.

All sessions are delivered by professional trainers with wide experience and knowledge of credit based learning and are designed to:

• enhance your current practice by developing your confidence and skills
• support your continuing personal and professional development
• help your organisation to meet inspection requirements by enhancing its quality systems

Courses take place in a comfortable, well serviced environment and include lunch and all refreshments.

Learner Packs which contain useful information together with practical exercises and resources are also provided.

In addition, we provide bespoke, on site training where we come to your Centre and deliver a session planned to your individual requirements. You may, for example request 2 or 3 hours training for new assessors followed by training for tutors planning to take on an internal verification role. We can also arrange to deliver the IVA or PPA to staff at your Centre.

A key role in our quality system is that of the ‘Approved Internal Verifier’.

This person carries out the role of internal verifier and, in addition, has the authority to sign off the award of credit for identified courses in their particular curriculum sector, an authority previously held by an external verifier or NOCN Quality Reviewer.

There are two routes to Approved Internal Verifier status:

1. Through completion of the NOCN Internal Verifier Award followed by inspection of practice by the Quality Reviewer for your Centre.
2. For those already holding a recognised Verifier qualification (V1, V2, D34, D35), through completion of the OCN Contextualisation course, followed by inspection of practice by the QR for your Centre.

Our Training Events Schedule for 2010-11 will be posted here shortly. All Internal Verifier training sessions will be offered at least once every term and we will also be offering a brand new programme of half day CPD events for current and new practitioners.
